Fastnet 2009 Yacht Charter from Inspire Yachting

RORC Fastnet 2009: building now to the event start on 9th August 2009

The Fastnet race sees a fleet of 300 yachts race 608 miles from Cowes, down the English Channel and out into the exposed Irish Sea. After about 2-3 days at sea you reach the famous sea-mark known as the Fastnet Rock from which the race takes it name. After rounding the rock it is usually a fast and exhilerating ride for 2 days to the finishing line in Plymouth.

The Royal Ocean Racing Club Fastnet Race is run in alternate years. It is the most famous offshore yacht race in the world, first run in 1925, when 7 yachts came to the start line.

The race follows immediately after Cowes Week, in mid-August, but even so conditions can be challenging – never more so than in 1979 from which books are still being written. That race led to many improvements in equipment and procedures, among them stringent requirements about crew qualification. The requirements of the RORC Fastnet Race for boat and crew will be part of the pre-race build up but even so we go beyond those requirements by putting all crew members through a full course of in-house training plus the required RORC races in the Channel.

The race itself starts on Sunday 9 August, the day after Cowes Week ends. We expect to finish on Wednesday or Thursday, and to be back in the Solent by the end of Sunday, a week after the start.

We are offering places on our Elan 410 Inspire with the following package.

Three training weekends including RORC Races.
The Fastnet Race itself
Return passage from Plymouth to the Solent
Use of lifejackets and wet-weather gear.
All meals while on-board.

This package costs £2,995 per person and represents great value considering the time on the water and the experience of racing in one of the most prestigious events in the world. The package does not include formal first aid and sea survival training, which all crew members should ideally have. More details of this on request.

The Fastnet Race is for many the Everest of sailing. Be sure not to miss the opportunity to be part of this historic event,
